In mid-2010, César Palacios accepted the commission to paint these bullfighting scenes, with the intention that they reflect the life of the fighting bull as a whole, from its birth in the field, to its intended –always– triumph in the Square.
The value and main importance of this series of drawings lies more in the substance than in the form, that is, in how César Palacios captures the moment, the gesture, the meeting between the matador and the bull, the passes, the third of rods , the meeting in banderillas... more than in the simple materials he uses, a few simple sheets of paper and a black marker or pen.
Every good fan will capture the pinch, the essence of the bullfight, through the artist's deep knowledge of Bullfighting.
That same pinch that is felt when enjoying things well done in the ring, and that the author knew how to draw masterfully, over so many years watching the bulls from his privileged vantage point in the alley of the Plaza de Las Ventas, where he provided his sandbox services.
Big door then, for César Palacios, cartoonist of these splendid scenes of our bullfighting.
It goes for you! and in memory of him, teacher.
